Diagnostic limits
This tester reports what the browser's Gamepad API reports. That is a genuinely useful view of your controller, but it is not the same as a bench inspection. A pad can pass every reading here and still have a failing solder joint, a cracked shell, or an intermittent fault that only shows under load.
Equally, a poor reading is not always the controller's fault. Low battery, wireless interference, a charge-only USB cable, a busy CPU, or a browser that throttles background tabs can all produce numbers that look like hardware failure. Where a reading is ambiguous, the tool says so rather than issuing a verdict it cannot support.
The Health Score
The 0-100 score is a summary of the inputs you have actually exercised during your session. It is a guide, not a certification, and it is not a valuation. Do not treat it as a warranty claim, an insurance assessment, or proof of condition in a sale without also sharing the underlying readings.
Repair and modification
Blog posts on this site describe cleaning and repair procedures. Opening a controller usually voids its warranty, and any repair carries a risk of making the fault worse. Isopropyl alcohol is flammable. Soldering involves heat and fumes. You are responsible for your own safety and for any damage caused. If a controller is under warranty, use the warranty.
Buying and selling
The used-controller checklist is intended to help you spot obvious problems before money changes hands. It cannot guarantee a purchase, and neither we nor this tool are party to any transaction you make.
